What the FWS doesn't tell you is that we're expected to lose roughly 20 bat species in the United States, primarily in the eastern and mid-west areas.

Many states, including the one I live in, have closed all public caves for three years to help combat WNS. But this isn't necessarily a good thing. Although WNS is spread from human-bat contact, it is primarily spread through bat-bat contact. Bats do NOT stay in the same cave every night... they travel, sometimes vast distances. Which means that there's essentially nothing we can do about it. Closing off the caves won't help slow down the spread, and prevents trained, professional cavers from both enjoying the caves, surveying caves, and researching both the caves and the disease.
